    “It’s Not CGI”: Christopher Nolan Hints At How They Filmed The Atomic Bomb Scene For ‘Oppenheimer’

    Christopher Nolan, who helms the film, is well-known for his research on the subjects that are featured in his projects. He has played with time travel in the past but this time things are going to be different.

    How The Atomic Bomb Scenes Were Created In ‘Oppenheimer’

    Christopher Nolan preferred to use practical effects for the sequence

    People who have seen Christopher Nolan’s films over the years are well aware of his addiction to practical effects. He could not stay away from the same this time. During a press conference, Nolan said that the atomic bomb scenes were important and they figured out everything before filming them.

    He addressed a similar sequence that he shot in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and he realized that computer graphics would never give the sense of threat. A majority of the experiments involved a few smashing ping pong balls and paint being thrown on the wall.

    The experiments were shot in close-up with small digital cameras at different frame rates and later recreated with huge IMAX cameras.

    The Relevance Of The Trinity Test In ‘Oppenheimer’

    The Trinity Test is supposed to get a lot of attention in the film

    The Trinity test scene is supposed to be in the headlines but a few of the scenes were used for other portions in the film, including the chaos of Oppenheimer’s mind. Christopher Nolan revealed that CGI was not an option for him and he was not expecting to get anything that would prove to be personal and unique for the lead character.

    Nolan added: “We were able to generate this incredible library of idiosyncratic and personal and frightening and beautiful images to represent the thought process of somebody at the forefront of the paradigm shift from Newtonian physics to quantum mechanics.”

    ‘Oppenheimer’ will portray the story of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and it is scheduled to be released on July 21, 2023.
