Oscar Nominee Jacob Elordi Reportedly Is In “Pole Position” For New-Era James Bond Role

In Short
  • Jacob Elordi is reportedly in "pole position" to become the next James Bond.
  • Amazon MGM is interested in a younger actor like Elordi to lead the Bond franchise for the next decade.
  • Elordi's growing popularity and appeal among younger audiences may align with the studio's goal to redefine Bond for a new generation.

Jacob Elordi may not have officially signed on as James Bond yet. But fresh industry chatter suggests the ‘Wuthering Heights‘ star could be heading toward one of Hollywood’s biggest roles.

According to new claims, Jacob Elordi has reportedly moved into “pole position” to become the next 007. That would also make him the youngest James Bond actor of the modern era if the casting goes through.

Jacob Elordi’s Age Could Make Bond History

Much of the recent Bond speculation has revolved around Jacob Elordi’s age and why Amazon MGM may see him as the ideal long-term choice for the franchise. At just 28 years old, Elordi could potentially spend the next decade leading the Bond series.

Marina Hyde discussed that exact topic on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, explaining why Bond producers may currently view Elordi as such a strong candidate. According to Hyde, Amazon MGM reportedly wants a younger actor who can stay attached to the franchise for years. That would limit the scope for rebooting the character after only a few films.

Speaking about Elordi’s long-term potential, Hyde said, “He’s 28. So, he could easily do a good 10 years, which is what they really want, right? They want somebody who’s going to own this for a generation.” Amazon MGM probably wants Bond’s future built around a younger actor who can carry multiple films over the next decade.

The podcast discussion also highlighted Elordi’s rapidly growing popularity among younger audiences. It’s something that could become especially valuable as Amazon attempts to introduce Bond to a newer generation of viewers. Hyde even argued that Elordi has already reached genuine Hollywood A-list status despite still being relatively early in his career. “He is one of the few people you would say is definitely an A-list,” she explained during the conversation.

Hyde also compared the current Bond debate surrounding Elordi to the backlash Daniel Craig originally faced after landing the role years ago. Many fans initially doubted Craig before audiences eventually embraced him as one of the franchise’s most successful Bond actors. And Hyde suggested Elordi could potentially follow a similar path.

Another major talking point during the conversation involved Elordi’s screen appeal and why he may already possess qualities traditionally associated with James Bond. Hyde openly addressed that side of the discussion by saying, “Women already want to sleep with um Jacob Elordi”. And that makes Elordi a natural fit for the classic Bond image producers often look for when casting 007.

Bond Creators May See Elordi As A Fresh Start For 007

One of the major reasons Jacob Elordi’s Bond rumors continue gaining momentum may come down to timing. Amazon MGM Studios is currently preparing one of the biggest Bond franchise relaunches in history after longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson stepped away, handing over creative control. Besides, ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight is developing the screenplay.

That major transition reportedly gives the studio an opportunity to completely redefine Bond for a younger generation of moviegoers. Marina Hyde suggested on the podcast that Elordi may benefit heavily, as he still feels relatively fresh in blockbuster terms compared to several other rumored Bond candidates.

Hyde also argued that audiences would likely have no issue with an Australian actor playing Bond. This came as a surprise, as the character has traditionally been closely associated with British actors. Speaking about that possibility, Hyde explained, “I think you can get away with it being Australian. I don’t think you can have an American one, no matter how great the accent.”

Industry chatter surrounding Elordi has also intensified. Now, reports claim he has already met with Bond producers, Amazon MGM executives, and Denis Villeneuve himself. Entertainment journalist Roger Friedman previously reported that Villeneuve is expected to have a major influence over the casting process.

Despite the growing speculation, Hyde repeatedly stressed that nothing has been officially finalized yet. “It definitely hasn’t been a done deal yet,” she admitted during the podcast conversation while discussing the ongoing Bond rumors. Still, Elordi’s name now appears more connected to 007 than ever before as Amazon MGM continues planning Bond’s next era.
