‘Barbie’ is one of the highly anticipated projects of 2023 considering that it is a live-action remake after a few animated adaptations over the years. There are high expectations in terms of storyline and box office collections.
However, the film has got itself attached to a few controversies which include its ban in a few countries. The film has been already banned in Vietnam for a few issues and the next ban now comes from the Philippines.

Philippines-Based Lawmaker Seeks For Ban On ‘Barbie’
Senators of the Philippines have asked for a ban on ‘Barbie’ as it features a sequence where a map of Beijing is showing the controversial nine-dash line claim in the South China Sea. This is the same reason for which the film has been banned in Vietnam.
Vice-chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Francis Tolentino said that allowing the screening of the film will be contrary to what the country has achieved under a United Nations-backed arbitral ruling in 2016.
Addressing the country’s film regulator, Tolentino stated: “If the invalidated nine-dash line was indeed depicted in the movie Barbie, then it is incumbent upon the MTRCB to ban the same as it denigrates Philippine sovereignty.” According to Jinggoy Estrada, the scene was linked to the country’s sovereignty, saying that he expects the MTRCB to decide on the film’s release.
