Quentin Tarantino Confirms His R-Rated ‘Star Trek’ Film Is “Never Going To Happen” And The Reason Is His Legacy

The highly-anticipated R-rated ‘Star Trek film directed by Quentin Tarantino has officially been warped out of existence. After months of speculation and fervent fan excitement, the director himself has confirmed that the project is not going forward.

Tarantino’s take on the film series offered a lot. Fans envisioned an action-packed, dialogue-driven adventure that would push the boundaries of the beloved sci-fi series. In a recent interview with Bill Maher for SffGazette, Tarantino addressed the ‘Star Trek‘ rumors head-on. He expressed frustration with the “misinformation” surrounding the project.

Moreover, he further highlighted the challenges of navigating a world saturated with social media. “I live in a special zone,” he explained. “And part of my zone is because I’m not on Instagram and Facebook, I’m not creating this constant dialogue with the world with what’s going on with my life,” he added. Tarantino further criticized the spread of unconfirmed information.

He then compared the situation to a notorious hoax biography of Howard Hughes. “If you hear Quentin is going to make a Star Trek movie or a make a movie called The Movie Critic, or any f–king thing, it’s a little bit like that guy who wrote the Howard Hughes biography that ended up being a hoax,” he stated. He also debunked the rumor about The Movie Critic‘ being his last movie.

Additionally, Tarantino emphasized the ease with which speculation and rumors can snowball into perceived facts. “The thing is, they can say anything,” he added. Moreover, Paramount Pictures has since shifted its focus to a new prequel film, with a different director and writing team at the helm.

Mark L. Smith, the screenwriter tasked with bringing Quentin Tarantino’s vision for a Star Trek film to life previously talked about the script being unfinished. Additionally, he revealed that despite Tarantino’s initial enthusiasm, the filmmaker ultimately decided against the project.

All this was due to concerns about the number of films he would make throughout his career. “I remember we were talking, and he goes, ‘If I can just wrap my head around the idea that Star Trek could be my last movie, the last thing I ever do. Is this how I want to end it?’ And I think that was the bump he could never get across, so the script is still sitting there on his desk,” Matt stated.

Moreover, Smith confirmed that Tarantino had expressed interest in Star Trek being his final film. However, the director’s hesitation to commit to the project ultimately led to its cancellation. Unfortunately, there are no indications that Paramount Pictures plans to continue development without Tarantino’s involvement.

Tarantino’s decision to abandon the Star Trek film is a disappointment for fans who had eagerly anticipated his unique take on the beloved sci-fi franchise. Moreover, the director’s reasons for pulling the plug remain somewhat unclear. As for the future of Star Trek, the franchise continues to thrive on television with series like ‘Star Trek: Picard’ and ‘Star Trek: Discovery.’
