The development of the ‘Gladiator’ sequel has been highly anticipated since the release and success of the original film in 2000. The movie has not only won various Academy Awards but has also impacted the action genre.
Ridley Scott, the director of the film, has long expressed his desire to continue the story, and it is finally happening. Scott recently opened up about the future of the ‘Gladiator‘ franchise, revealing that he has already written 8 pages of the ‘Gladiator 3‘ script. However, he has some goals to achieve before he moves forward. Here’s what he said.
Is ‘Gladiator 3’ Finally Happening?
The wait for the third part doesn’t seem long now. Ridley Scott told Total Film that he is ever ready for the third part of the movie series. “I’ve already got eight pages. I’ve got the beginning of a very good footprint,” he said, adding that the audience could expect a change in scenery and surroundings in the third part of the movie.
“If there’s a Gladiator 3, I don’t think you’d ever go back into the arena. But I had to go back into the arena…Very intriguing indeed,” Scott continued. In the same interview, he also reflected on the fact that nobody else was hopeful about this film when he first proposed the idea of it.

He said, “The first movie really definitely touched the imagination in a way I didn’t quite expect. Because when they heard that Ridley is doing a Roman epic – a sword-and-spear-and-sandal movie – there was a lot of sniggering. Because up to that date, they’d always been very, you know, old-style Hollywood. And I knew what to do”.
‘Gladiator 3’ Depends On The Performance Of ‘Gladiator 2’
Though he is seemingly ambitious about a third film in the ‘Gladiator‘ franchise, Ridley Scott is also fully aware of the fact that ‘Gladiator 2‘ is still a month away from being released. The sequel will set the groundwork for the third part and determine whether a third film ends up getting made.
The first movie earned a lot of recognition and an Oscar too. It’s hard to tell whether ‘Gladiator 2’ will live up to the expectations laid down 24 years back by the original movie.

Moreover, reports on the ‘Gladiator 2′ budget have been varied. The project was budgeted at $165 million, which was very high. Later, it was said that the budget was lowered to $310 million. The reports after that claimed that the total cost of the film came in at $250 million. There is still no confirmation about the third part of the movie but Scott’s enthusiasm doesn’t make it seem impossible.
