All About ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ Plot
In a barrage of superhero movies with tight suits and tighter facial muscles comes ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods,’ a film that presents being a savior as a work in progress. After distributing his powers among his foster care siblings, Billy Batson (Asher Angel) grapples with being the team leader. He’s also about to turn 18 and age out of the foster system.
And then come the daughters of Atlas, Hespera (Helen Mirren), Kalypso (Lucy Liu), and Anthea (Rachel Zegler). It is not an interplanetary social visit; the sisters are on the warpath. They look to eradicate the bearer of their father’s powers. Before they turn everything and everyone into ash, Billy Batson must learn what it takes to be a hero and grow up for humanity’s sake.

‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ Is A Delightful Dose Of DCU Entertainment
‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ brings to mind the old saying of ‘strength in numbers, but the sequel deals with how someone is so dependent on their collective unit it saps their individuality. There’s a world out there that Billy Batson has to face without his superhuman alter ego, and he’s still got his training wheels.
‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ works well because of its willingness to lean into its absurdity. Zachary Levi as Shazam remains an effortlessly charming presence in otherwise tonally dark (and bland) DCU. As the Daughters of Atlas, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are earnest in their performances, momentarily swinging from camp to cruel. Not to mention, Rachel Zegler and Jack Dylan Grazer give us the most heartwarming meet cute. And Jack Dylan Grazer has got zingers for days.
All the praise can’t take away from its faults. It seems a common complaint for all movies to have a clunky final act with an overwhelming amount of CGI monsters. While the ‘Shazam‘ sequel tries to have fun by introducing the latest pop culture references, it does take the pleasure out of its final antagonist’s fight. But even with technical kinks, ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods‘ has enough heartwarming and hilarious moments of a seamless family entertainer. Keep on the lookout for another Justice League member making a cameo and the wink to another ‘Shazam‘ movie.
