Many actors have played DC’s Joker and almost each of them has done justice to the character. But what is Joker without his Harley Quinn? The actresses who play Joker’s lady love also have a prominent role to play in Joker’s story and how its representation pans out. One of the most acclaimed actresses for her role as Harley Quinn is ‘Suicide Squad’ fame Margot Robbie.
The actress had done full justice to her role in the 2016 film and will always be remembered for it. Now as Joker fans eagerly await the release of the sequel ‘Folie à Deux’, Robbie has something to say to Lady Gaga, the next actress poised to play Harley Quinn.

Margot Robbie Is Confident That Lady Gaga Will Rule As Harley Quinn
Margot Robbie has given the seal of approval to Lady Gaga taking on the iconic role in the upcoming Joker sequel, ‘Folie à Deux’. Though none of the actresses have spoken about the upcoming film before, Robbie couldn’t contain her excitement for Gaga’s portrayal during the Golden Globe 2024 Awards digital pre-show.
Robbie, who portrayed Harley Quinn in 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad’, said she is pretty confident that Lady Gaga will carry on the legacy perfectly and ace at it. “Oh my god, she’s going to crush it. Are you kidding? She’s going to be amazing, I can’t wait to see it,” Robbie said while speaking to host Marc Malkin.
Malkin then asked her if she and Gaga had discussed the role, Robbie said she had not done that on purpose. “I actually haven’t spoken to her about it. I almost don’t want to know so I can save it for the surprise when I get to see the movie,” she said.

Robbie Is Happy To See So Many Actresses Carrying Harley Quinn’s Legacy
The ‘Barbie‘ actress said she is “very happy” to see different actresses taking on the role of Harley Quinn. “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor,” Robbie had said.
“And I feel like in not so many cases are they female characters,” she said. “Queen Elizabeth I, but like beyond that — which I got to have a crack at as well, which I was honored to do. I was like, ‘Wow, Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.'”
As for Lady Gaga, Robbie has been her old fan. “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters who other actors get to have a go at playing. And I think she’ll do something incredible with it.” Robbie had also praised Gaga once before in an October 2022 interview with MTV.
Lady Gaga officially confirmed her casting as Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel in August 2022. She took to social media to post an animated video of her and Joaquin Phoenix’s silhouettes. Directed by Todd Phillips, the sequel is highly anticipated.
Both Gaga and Phillips took to Instagram in April after the filming of the movie was completed. “That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom,” Phillips wrote in a caption, with two photos — one of Gaga with clown makeup and the other showing Phoenix as Joker.
While Gaga kept her message concise, writing, “That’s a wrap ❤️🔥 🎬🃏 X, Harleen.”
