Tom Holland has shared a sweet story about his mom’s reaction to watching him in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey‘. It happened at the world premiere, and it quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

When the credits started rolling on the three-hour epic, Holland’s family was in tears, just like everyone else in the theatre. But then his mother leaned over and said something that really made him smile. Holland said, “After the movie finished, the credits are rolling, there’s not a dry eye in the house, and then my mom puts her hand on my knee and goes: ‘I didn’t realize you had such a big part on this!’

Fans got a kick out of the fact that Holland managed to keep his screen time a secret from his own mother. A lot of people pointed out that he pulled off a family secret better than Nolan keeps his movie secrets, and Nolan is known for being very secretive.

This role is a big deal for Holland, who is now 30. He plays Telemachus, the son of Matt Damon’s Odysseus and Anne Hathaway’s Penelope. The movie cost $200 million to make, and it is the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX cameras. His character has to protect his family and his throne from dangerous suitors back home on Ithaca while his father goes through a rough ten-year journey to get back.

Holland has talked about how much this role means to him. He said it feels like “the beginning of a new chapter” in his life and career. He also told the BBC in a recent interview, “The thing that I love the most is that it feels a little bit like the last chance for me to play a boy.

The premiere was extra special because Holland’s wife, Zendaya, is also in the film. She plays the goddess Athena, but the two of them do not have any scenes together. Holland shared that they actually read the screenplay together before Nolan even offered her the part. He said, “The next day Christopher Nolan asked me if I’d mind if he invited Zendaya to play Athena. I went home and told her the news. It was a really special moment.” He added that her reaction was great, saying, “The corners of her mouth curled into a smile, and then we both started jumping around the kitchen.”
