Vin Diesel has read the latest ‘Fast Forever‘ script, and his reaction could not have been more emotional. The actor called it the best screenplay he has read in decades and admitted that the story left him in tears.
Mike Lesslie wrote the latest version of the long-awaited Fast & Furious finale after several writers previously worked on the project. Diesel now appears convinced that Lesslie has found the emotional heart needed to bring the main saga to an end.

Diesel praised the screenplay while promoting the 25th anniversary re-release of ‘The Fast and the Furious‘. He told fans that watching the 2001 movie in cinemas would make the arrival of Fast Forever feel even more meaningful.

“You have no idea,” he teased. “When March 17th 2028 comes… you will thank God you got to see the First one in the theaters this summer. I just read the Fast Forever script by Mike Lesslie. It is the best script I have read in decades.”
The actor then added, “I am still crying…”. Diesel did not reveal which part of the story affected him so deeply, but his words suggest the final film will aim for a highly emotional farewell when it arrives on March 17, 2028.
Mike Lesslie Brings an Emotional Story to ‘Fast Forever’
Diesel announced in March that Lesslie had started working on ‘Fast Forever‘ after multiple writers had taken a shot at the screenplay. Even before reading the latest version, Diesel praised Lesslie’s pitch as “a story with something real beating inside it.”

Reports also named him as the choice to write the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first X-Men movie. ‘Fast X‘ director Louis Leterrier is expected to return and direct his Fast Forever script.
Diesel had already explained why the final screenplay carried such a huge responsibility. “There is a particular weight that comes with delivering a finale,” he wrote at the time.
“A responsibility you feel in your chest, to everyone who gave something to get here, to the audience that stayed. You don’t take that lightly. You take it as fuel. And when you find out you’re going back to Los Angeles… back to the streets where it all began, something clicks into place. The city that made the first film feel alive, still here, still holding. Coming home to close it out right. That’s not logistics. That’s a gift.”
‘Fast Forever‘ has a difficult job ahead because ‘Fast X‘ ended with several major cliffhangers. A plane crash left the lives of four key characters uncertain, while Dom and his son faced an explosion at a dam. Now, Lesslie’s script must resolve those stories and complete the two-part finale that began in 2023.
