Sam Raimi’s ‘Evil Dead’ movies have an endearing legacy. Its DIY attitude and minimalistic, schlocky appearance make it distinct from all horror movies shot before. Despite Sam Raimi not being at the helm anymore, the franchise continues to grow with new filmmakers bringing their take on the material.
With ‘Evil Dead Rise’ coming to theatres this week, it’s time to watch everything that precedes the lore (maybe not the television series.) Just so you don’t narratively lose yourself while watching the latest franchise film, we suggest you do marathon viewing of all the previous movies in the correct order.

‘Evil Dead’ Movies In Chronological Order
‘Evil Dead’ is a horror film franchise comprising five feature films. It is divided into Sam Raimi’s original trilogy and the reboot films. Bruce Campbell’s fan-favorite character Ash is the only constantly appearing character in Raimi’s trilogy. The first film to watch is ‘The Evil Dead.’
It is to be followed by its sequels- ‘Evil Dead II’ (1987) and ‘Army of Darkness ‘(1992). Raimi passed the baton of the franchise to filmmaker Fede Álvarez, who took the franchise forward with his reboot film ‘Evil Dead’ with Jane Levy as the protagonist. The latest film in the franchise is ‘Evil Dead Rise‘, released in theaters on April 21, 2023. It should be the last movie to watch if you are going in chronological order.
