A new movie featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo is arriving on our screens. ‘Wicked‘ movie adaptation is now officially in the works. It’s been years since we heard about the movie production of the iconic musical however fans finally have an official update.
Jon M. Chu’s feature adaptation of the hit Broadway musical will be a two-part film series. It will be based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.‘ People’s anticipation is sky-high after knowing the star-studded cast of the movie. ‘Wicked’: The Plot
Now, if you are thinking how different the film is from the musical, lead actress Cynthia Erivo, confirmed that it will be “unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.” Also the director, Jon M. Chu tweeted in April 2022 that the movie will be released in parts due to the large amount of content.
Here is the synopsis of the film:“Wicked, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships… until the world decides to call one ‘good,’ and the other one ‘wicked.’”

The Cast And Release date
The movie will star Cynthia Erivo, best known for her role as Celie in the Broadway production of ‘The Color Purple‘, as the Wicked Witch of the West. Ariana Grande, the pop sensation, will appear as the Good Witch Glinda. The ‘Bridgerton‘ actor Jonathan Bailey will star as Fiyero, the love interest.
Although there is no official set date yet, The first part of the film will be released in December 2024. Whereas the second part of the film is planned to release the following year in December 2025.
