‘Divergent‘ is based on the popular young adult dystopian novel of the same title by Veronica Roth. The story is set in a future society where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities and virtues. However, after the lead of the movie finds out that she doesn’t belong to any faction it makes her a threat to society.
The movie series was divided into 3 parts – ‘Divergent‘, ‘Insurgent‘, and ‘Allegiant‘. At the time of their release, the franchise had their audience in a chokehold. Despite not being loved by the critics the movies had garnered a cult-like following who wanted more. Since a fourth part of the book series is available, why did it not reach the big screen?

Is There A Possibility Of ‘Divergent 4’?
The ‘Divergent‘ book series of the same name as the movies had a fourth book. The book was titled ‘Four: A Divergent Collection’ and was a collection of 5 short stories from the ‘Divergent‘ trilogy. Moreover, even a fourth movie named ‘The Divergent Series: Ascendant’ was in the works.
After ‘Allegiant’s disappointing box office performance and the general public’s interest in the movie dying down it was announced that ‘Ascendant’ would be turned into a TV movie. However, the star cast of the previous movies and the fans were not happy with the movie series getting a small screen ending. So, the movie ended up getting canceled for several reasons in 2018.

‘Divergent’ Author Veronica Roth Claims To Be At ‘Peace’ With The Producers Scrapping ‘Divergent 4’
Veronica Roth talked about the books being broken down to make two movies from a single book in an interview with People. “I mean, breaking things in two was all the rage at the time. That was why that decision was made. But at that point, I think I always felt peace about it just because I knew the movies were taking a different track than the books, and if you change the lead-up, you change the ending.”
She further clarified that she was fine with the last movie’s cancelation as it felt complete to her. “So, I kind of felt like at that point… I feel like that third movie, I don’t know, there’s a lot we could talk about with it. But it’s its own thing. It feels complete to me, relatively speaking, because what does that even mean at that point?” she added.
