If you loved Taylor Swift‘s ‘Tortured Poets Department’, ‘Fleabag‘ actor Andrew Scott might be one of the people you wanna thank for it as the actor’s group chat with Joe Alwyn was most likely the inspiration behind the album’s name.
In an interview, Scott sat down to talk about a bunch of Hollywood things, while also sneaking in a few words of admiration for Taylor Swift, and a surprising detail about the group chat that inspired Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department‘ album.
Andrew Scott Praises Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’
Andrew Scott’s close friendship with Joe Alwyn didn’t stop him from admiring Alwyn’s ex Taylor Swift’s new album, which included a number of songs for the British actor as Swift detailed down the end of their six-year relationship.
Speaking to Variety, Scott was all praise for Swift and her newest work, as he said, “Taylor’s new album is sensational! I texted her yesterday to say how amazing it is” before adding, “I think she is just a force of nature, just an extraordinary human, and this album is really, really amazing.”
He even picked a favorite from the album, citing ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’ as his favorite from the record, which happens to be one of the wonderfully written heartbreaking songs on the album, quite possibly directed at her fling with Matty Healey.
Apart from the kind words, Scott also revealed a few details about the group chat that seemingly inspired the ‘Tortured Poets Department‘.

Andrew Scott Talks About The ‘Tortured Man Club’ Group Chat With Joe Alwyn
After Swift announced the name of the album, fans were quick to point out that its name bore quite a resemblance to a group chat Paul Mescal, Joe Alwyn and Andrew Scott had together, called ‘The Tortured Man Club’

"It hasn't had much use recently," Alwyn says.

Talking about the group chat, Andrew said, “Let me tell you what that is! So they were about to play these tortured characters, and I had played a tortured character in ‘Fleabag.’ It wasn’t about our own characteristics!” The chat, however, is dead now as he says. “I think there were three texts, like, ‘Hey, guys.’ You know those groups that you set up, and they just collapse.”
The chat, as Scott says, doesn’t have any relation to their characteristics in real life, it’s about MesCal and Alwyn playing tortured male characters in Sally Rooney’s adaptations, ‘Normal People’ and ‘Conversations With Friends’, while Scott had already played a tortured male in critically acclaimed ‘Fleabag‘.
