Beyoncé on Tuesday took to Instagram to post a suggestive update related to her upcoming album. The pop sensation has revealed that the much-anticipated album will be titled ‘Act II: Cowboy Carter’.

The singer subtly updated her Instagram bio, where she dropped the album title and its release date of March 29. Accompanying this announcement was an image shared on her Instagram Story—a saddle with a striking red, white, and blue sash bearing the words “Cowboy Carter.”

This visual was notably intriguing as it juxtaposes the metallic, disco-inspired saddle from the “Renaissance” cover with a Western motif. The picture is also clearly suggestive of her artistic evolution and transition into country music.

As she merely teased her fans on social media with no content whatsoever, Beyoncé ensured that the announcement was front and center on her official website. The Shop section of her site also introduced alternate artwork for the album. The artwork has intimate close-up shots of the Grammy winner wearing a black cowboy hat, a white snake adorning her eye, and her hair styled in a blonde, feathered cut with braids.

This revelation comes after weeks of speculation sparked by Beyoncé’s surprise announcement during the Super Bowl in early February. In a Verizon commercial, the singer had dropped a teaser for the second act of “Renaissance,” scheduled for release on March 29.

Fans were quick to deduce that Beyoncé was exploring the country genre, inspired by the visual aesthetic of the cult-favorite western film ‘Paris, Texas’. Building upon the excitement among fans, Beyoncé released two roots-inspired tracks, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em‘ and ‘16 Carriages’. Both were accompanied by artwork with the star embracing a western attire.

Texas Hold ‘Em‘ soon made it to the top of the Hot Country Songs chart, making Beyoncé the first Black female artist to achieve this milestone.

As anticipation mounts for the release of ‘Cowboy Carter’, speculation regarding its contents is widespread. Rumors suggest that the album may feature a cover of Dolly Parton’s classic ‘Jolene’, with the country icon herself has hinted at its inclusion in an interview with Knox News.

Ahead of the album release, Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles has opened up about the deep-rooted connection between the singer and cowboy culture. Sharing vintage magazine covers of Beyoncé donning cowboy attire on Instagram, Knowles underlined the family’s Texan upbringing and their embrace of Black cowboy culture.

I just came across this video on my IG feed! We have always celebrated Cowboy Culture growing up in Texas,” she wrote in the caption. “We also always understood that it was not just about it belonging to White culture only. In Texas there is a huge black cowboy culture. Why do you think that my kids have integrated it into their fashion and art since the beginning.”

When people ask why is Beyoncé wearing cowboy hats? It’s really funny, I actually laugh because it’s been there since she was a kid, we went to rodeos every year and my whole family dressed in western fashion. Solange did a whole brilliant Album and Project based on Black Cowboy Culture. It definitely was a part of our culture growing up,” she concluded.
