Charli XCX’s latest music has a subtle Matty Healy reference, compelling fans to believe that the singer wrote a few verses to shade Taylor Swift as she continues to get dragged for apparently blocking Charli off the charts.
This led to fans throwing hate speech for Swift at Charli’s concert, clips of which has gone viral on social media. Here’s what Charli XCX said while addressing the hate speech, calling out fans for tearing down Swift.
Charli XCX Asks Fans To Refrain From Spreading Hate Towards Taylor Swift
In 2019, Charli XCX toured with Taylor Swift on the ‘Reputation’ stadium tour and constantly extended her gratitude towards the singer for giving her that exposure. Half a decade later, it seems the friendship has gotten sour as fans speculate that the singer gave out some subtle shade towards Swift on her new song.
The song called ‘Sympathy Is A Knife’ includes lyrics that says, “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show. Fingers crossed behind my back. I hope they break up quick.”
Many saw this as a direct shade at Taylor, who was dating the 1975 frontman Matty Healy. Moreover, Charli is engaged to The 1975’s drummer, George Daniel. Additionally, many started accusing Swift of releasing new variants of her album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ right when Charli’s album ‘Brat’ came out deliberately so she stays out of the charts. All of which has summed to the intense Taylr Swift hate at Charli’s concerts.
Fans chanted ‘Taylor is dead’ during her latest concert and Charli was quick to get to Instagram to show her support for Swift. She wrote, “Can the people who do this please stop. Online or at my shows. It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. I will not tolerate it.”
However, Charli has not yet acknowledged or addressed any of the claims about the song being for Swift.
