AI replacing artists in the future is one of the primary reasons why Hollywood is currently on strike. It has already started to affect the entertainment industry. Although the generative applications of AI seem endless, thankfully there are constraints to what it can achieve when compared to an artist’s personal uniqueness and emotions. Just last month, AI-generated a version of The Weeknd’s 2016 hit song ‘Starboy‘ in the voice of Selena Gomez. The clip went so viral that the singer had an extremely shocked reaction to it.
Upon listening to the AI version of herself singing her ex-boyfriend’s viral song, Selena Gomez commented, “Scary”. So, how does she feel about AI affecting her work?

Selena Gomez Shares Her Fear of AI Replacing Artists in the Future
As the most followed woman on Instagram with 429 million followers, Selena Gomez never really was worried about social media. During the artist’s presence at the inaugural Music + Health Conference organized by Universal Music Group and Thrive Global on Tuesday, Gomez shared her mental health journey, and her future in the industry also touching on the subject of AI replacing artists in the near future.
In a conversation with Universal Music Group CEO Sir Lucian Grainge and Thrive Global CEO Arianna Huffington, the ‘Wolf‘ singer shared how scared she is of the progress of AI taking over artists. The Rare Beauty founder said, “It terrifies me, to be honest, the whole AI thing, but I don’t think you could ever replace what a human being can write… Lil Wayne said it really well, and he was basically saying that there’s no other human-like who you are. And that’s all it should be.” She even cited how Lil Wayne constantly emphasized the uniqueness of an individual.

Why Selena Wasn’t Convinced If ‘My Mind And Me’ Documentary Was A Good Idea
Alek Keshishian is back with ‘My Mind & Me’, starring Selena Gomez tracking the six-year journey battling autoimmune disease, mental illness, and the pressures of constantly being in the limelight. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gomez was skeptical about the documentary at the beginning.
Selena Gomez said, “There was a very long period of time where I just didn’t know if it was a good idea. I knew, eventually, one day I wanted to maybe just be an actress for a while, and I didn’t know if it would jeopardize things in my life. I don’t know what I’m doing, letting people into my life. And then the moment it was released…I had no choice at that point. And I was relieved.” Adding on to this, Gomez also revealed that she will never watch the documentary again, feeling the pressure of going through the pain all over again, calling it as of “a huge weight was lifted”.
