“People Didn’t Treat Me Like I Was Human”: Megan Thee Stallion Reflects On Tory Lanez Shooting Incident

Megan Thee Stallion recently opened up on one of the most disturbing times of her life, being assaulted by Tory Lanez in the infamous shooting incident. The rapper talked about how she overcame the trauma of the incident, and the response she got from her fans and peers.

“As a Black woman, as a darker Black woman, I also feel like people expect me to take the punches, take the beating, take the lashings, and handle it with grace,” Stallion said, talking to Women’s Health.

“But I’m human. A lot of people didn’t treat me like I was human for a long time. I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me.”

Following the shooting of Megan, hip-hop artist Lanez was found guilty of three felonies in December 2022, including assault with a semiautomatic weapon and leaving bullet fragments in her foot. Megan faced criticism from fans and other artists who doubted the authenticity of her account during the trial.

She also talked about going through depression following the incident. “I knew I wasn’t myself. It took me a while to acknowledge that I was depressed. But once I started talking to a therapist, I was able to be truthful with myself, she said.
