“Some Of You Don’t Belong In The Category”: Jay-Z Claps Back At Grammys For Never Awarding Beyoncé With ‘Album Of The Year’ Trophy

It is not an award show if there is no chaos! The Grammys 2024 were no different, as Jay-Z refused to betray the awards ceremony with drama. It was speculated that Beyoncé might perform at the 2024 Grammys; however, Jay-Z and his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, took the stage as the Recording Academy honored the rapper with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.

As Jay-Z accepted the Grammy, he called out the Recording Academy for not awarding Beyoncé the ‘Album of the Year’ trophy, despite the artist creating the record for winning the most Grammys in its history. He also took a dig at some of the artists, saying that they do not belong in the category.

At the Grammys 2024, Jay-Z won Dr. Dre’s Global Impact Award. He shared the stage with his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé was in attendance in the audience, cheering for her husband.

However, Jay’s beef with the Grammys seems to not be over yet! In 2018, the Grammys did not award any trophy to Jay-Z out of the eight nominations. He even dissed them in his song ‘Apes***’ with Beyoncé. But the rapper stood for his wife, as she never won ‘Album of the Year’ despite being the most Grammy winner in its history.

Jay-Z, in his speech, said, “I don’t wanna embarrass this young lady but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won ‘Album of the Year’. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work.”

Jay-Z continued, “Think about that. The most Grammys, never won ‘Album of the Year’-that doesn’t work.” Beyoncé lost to Adele in 2018, and in 2023, Harry Styles took the ‘Album of the Year’ trophy home.

The rapper dissed the nominees, saying, “Some of you gonna go home and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category.” Queen Bey’s former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland also resounded Jay-Z’s thoughts.
