“Very Few People Get To Be That Person”: Rob Lowe Says His Fame In The 80s Was Similar To Taylor Swift’s

Very few artists have actually been able to relate to Taylor Swift‘s level of fame, and Rob Lowe is possibly one of them. The ’80s star reflected on the fame he experienced during his days of glory and drew striking parallels between his own experience in the 1980s and Swift’s level of stardom today.

Lowe, who was a significant name in the music scene of the ’80s, was also subjected to intense media scrutiny, fans’ insanity and widespread love. Here’s how his journey of fame is similar to that of Taylor Swift.

The intense stardom surrounding Taylor Swift is somewhat similar to what Rob Lowe faced in the ’80s, according to the actor. During the filming of St. Elmo’s ‘Fire‘, a film that is often considered the pinnacle of the Brat Pack era, the actor recalled a particularly memorable incident.

Speaking to PEOPLE, he said, “I remember them having to bring me on and off the set in a police car, and that wasn’t the first or only time. People breaking into my grandparents’ house in Ohio thinking I was going to be there.”

In a slew of shocking incidents, an eager fan managed to break into his house and steal his pants. Then, a chaotic scene unfolded as crowds of people braved the freezing snow to wait for him all night while he was enjoying a ski vacation. Adding to the madness, several fans also decided to dress up as him for Halloween.

He then added, “I’m super grateful that I can say that I had that in my life, because very few people get to be that person. Every decade there’s a new crop and society demands it. It’s fun to watch that unfold having been there.”

He also compared his level of fame with Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber, saying, “Today it would be [Justin] Bieber, Taylor Swift, I don’t know if it’s Austin Butler, whoever it is today, there’s always going to be somebody living that life.”

Very few people come close to Taylor Swift’s level of fame. The pop star, who is currently dominating the world with her music and her record breaking Eras Tour, has seen the kind of stardom and fame that is almost unprecedented in the industry. Her cultural impact is impeccable and her power is incredible.

Most of this comes with an intensely supportive fanbase she has, who are willing to support her throughout all her rights and wrongs. Over the years, Swift has also tasted the bitterness of this stardom with numerous threats and stalking scares, the recent one being the terrorising ISIS threat she faced in Vienna.

Swift’s fame is a testament to the negative and positive aspects of fame as such, but seeing her and how she has managed it for two decades, she’s most likely a pro at it.
