When Kanye West Threatened To Remove Jay-Z’s Verse From ‘Donda’ Album If He Did Not Attend The Listening Party

Kanye West has lost the narrative since he went berserk over Jews and African Americans! In 2022, Ye went on a hate spree to spew racial and religious hate, which had a huge impact on his career. He lost a considerable amount of fortune after many industry moguls like Adidas, Balenciaga, and Vogue severed ties with him. However, before spiraling into a vengeful being, Kanye dropped his tenth album, titled ‘Donda.’

Kanye West named the album ‘Donda” after his late mother, Dr. Donda C. West. The 2021 album sold 309,000 equivalent album units in its first week, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. He had 23 songs from the album on the Billboard 100 list in the first week of its release. He created the most unique experience for the fans by having a listening party for the album before it hits streaming platforms. When he decided that, he threatened to drop the features on the Deluxe Edition if they did not attend the listening concert, including Jay-Z.

The whole of Atlanta was reverberating with the chants of ‘Donda” when Kanye West brought his ‘Donda’ album to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. As many as 42,000 people attended the concert, along with some noted celebrities like his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. That was the day when the city decided to celebrate the concert day as the now-defunct ‘Kanye West Day.’

‘Donda’ did receive a throbbing response from the fans, but there was a lot of bitterness and ego in the behind-the-scenes of the making of the album. It is evident in a leaked documentary about the making process of the album. One of the moments in the documentary is when Kanye is in a locker room on a call and threatens to take artists’ verses off the album if they do not turn up to the listening party.

During the conversation, he says, “Everybody that’s not there, I’m taking their verses off. I’m taking Jay-Z’s verse, I’m taking—if there’s anybody not here on the porch with me, they’re not on this version [Deluxe Edition].” When the album hit streaming services, Jay-Z’s verse was intact on ‘Jail.’ But, for part two, he decided to replace him with DaBaby.

The ‘Donda’ listening parties felt more like experimental concerts than just providing the fans with an enthralling, exclusive listening experience. After three extensive listening parties, Kanye West axed Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Soulja Boy, and Chris Brown‘s verses from the album. Artists like Soulja Boy and Chris Brown called out the artist publicly.

Soulja Boy tweeted, “IDK how to feel; Kanye sent me that song, ‘remote control,’ and I don’t hear my verse on it… “Hmm, fuck that n****.” Chris Brown called Ye a ‘whole hoe” after he scraped his verse from ‘New Again.’

The ‘Jesus Walks’ singer did address the controversy on the notorious ‘Drink Champs’ podcast in 2022. N.O.R.E asked him about Soulja Boy’s verse on ‘Remote Control.’  Kanye replied, “You ain’t heard that verse?” Then the hosts realized, and N.O.R.E. asked him, “The verse wasn’t good.” Ye, nonchalantly, said, “Nah.” Young Thug replaced Soulja Boy on the song.
