When Eminem first became famous, in 1999, the late-1990s sugary pop scene hated him. But he also succeeded in changing popular perceptions about the misdemeanor of rap music. Why Is EminemsStan’ Still A Censored Video?

Stan by Eminem was a revolution of a song. It illustrated the unhealthy obsessions that fans form with celebrities and how they eventually go out of control. The song also gave rise to the word “stan,” which represented those devout fans. The music video tells the story of a fan who becomes obsessed and dies young as a result of his irrational idol worship and perhaps mental instability.

The video, even after years of release is still censored. This is because of how much profanity is used in the song. Including verses talking about death, abuse, mental instability, and at some points, even homophobia. The music video is somewhat graphic too. Showing Stan, the stan in the video misbehaving with his girlfriend, and later killing himself.

In the MV, the scenes showing the girlfriend being gagged and bound in the truck are also removed. Overall, due to the contents of the video being sensitive and disturbing, it was censored. Both lyrically and graphically, it had disturbing parts and hence is still censored on youtube, even after two decades.
