Rihanna Spills Details Of Her New Album, Says “It’d Be Ridiculous” To Not Release It In 2023

The Princess of Pop, Rihanna mesmerized everyone with her comeback performance at the Super Bowl LVII Halftime. Rihanna was performing after seven years amidst such a huge audience. She took a hiatus from her thriving musical career to build a billion-dollar business empire. The ‘Diamonds’ singer has successfully erected invincible brands like ‘Savage X Fenty’ and ‘Fenty Beauty’ becoming one of the youngest billionaires. Now, she seems to be getting back to her roots!

The last time RiRi delivered an album to Navy was in 2016 titled ‘Anti’. It had prominent features like Kanye West and Drake. Post that, there have been many prominent changes that took place in her life. The Super Bowl announcement made the fans go into a frenzy, but they still were awaiting the music. In October 2022, she released a ballad from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ titled ‘Lift Me Up’. The song is now contending for the ‘Best Original Song’ trophy at the Oscars 2023. So, after two songs, will 2023 benedict the Navy with a new album?

The Pop extraordinaire did nothing but “work, work, work, work” to produce new music along with her other passion projects. It was in 2022, after six years, Rihanna rendered her vocals to two powerful ballads in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’. The song ‘Lift Me Up’ debuted at the No.1 position on Billboard’s ‘Hot R&B/ Hip Hop Chart’. Another ballad from the film was ‘Born Again’.

Apart from the movie music Rihanna, in her recent Vogue cover interview, admitted to having been working on the music. It has been a longstanding question from the Navy and the media. She has been in the process of creating some scratch work. But, like any artist, she cringes when she listens to old recorded music. It is “almost like trying to dress like you used to dress. It’s like, ‘Ew, no. I would never wear those again’. Your taste changes, your vibe changes”, Rihanna observes.

Now, after successfully running a business, performing at the Super Bowl Halftime, and releasing music in bits and pieces, Rihanna is ready to release a full-fledged album. RiRi said, “I want it to be this year. Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos. And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go shoot a video to me talking”.

In 2016, after many speculations, two singles, and fan theories, Rihanna dropped her seventh studio album ‘Anti’. It took three years for the ‘Work’ singer to produce and put together the LP. But, this Pop R&B material was different from the other albums.

After spending more than a decade in the industry, she became comfortable and sonically better. There were idiosyncrasies presented, but she took them very seriously and produced one of her most ‘self’ albums.

During the Vogue interview, she said, “In hindsight, it really is my most brilliant album. I say that because in the moment, I didn’t realise it. But it always felt like the most cohesive album I’ve ever made”.

She continued, “When you break it down and you realise this album goes from ‘Work’ to ‘Kiss It Better’ to ‘Needed Me’ to ‘Love on the Brain’ to ‘Sex with Me’ to ‘Desperado’, and somehow it all fits and not for a second did you glitch”. The artist said that the album is an “DJ’s worst nightmare”.
