The new British series on Netflix is not the only time the 2009 David Nicholls novel, ‘One Day’, was adapted. In 2011, Lone Scherfig helmed the film, which starred Anne Hathaway as Emma Morley and Jim Sturgess as Dexter Mayhew. The film did decent business at the box office but remains a forgotten film from the actress’ body of work.

However, during the premiere of ‘One Day’, Anne Hathaway said that she found Emma’s character relatable. She said, “I really related to Emma and her world-view and her lack of confidence and the way she was a late bloomer and had to grow into herself…I think I related a lot to that.”

Anne Hathaway also shared her experience working on the romantic drama. She added, “It was lovely…I think sometimes with love stories you’re asked to believe that people fall in love…in an absurdly short amount of time. So it was actually really wonderful to get to play a character who ages herself but also gets to know… her love.”
