‘Peaky Blinders‘ is a British period crime drama series set in Birmingham, London created by Steven Knight. It is loosely based on a real urban gang, with the same name that was active in the city from the 1880s to the 1910s. The ensemble cast features Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, Annabelle Wallis, and Sophie Rundle. A Peaky Blinders film would begin production in spring 2023.
The series follows the exploits of the Peaky Blinders crime gang in the aftermath of the First World War. The show’s fans have been on a rollercoaster of emotions. The creators left the fans heartbroken with the surprising death of characters and one among them was that of Grace, played by Annabelle Wallis.

Who Is Grace Shelby On ‘Peaky Blinders’?
Introduced in season one, Grace immediately became everyone’s favorite. She was an undercover spy, who worked in a pub called The Garrison. Appointed by the Birmingham Police, her task was to get dirt on the leader of Peaky Blinder, Tommy Shelby. Eventually, the pair fell in love, but after discovering her true motives, they separated for two years. Later, in season two, Grace returns to Tommy’s life but as someone else’s wife.
Discovering that their feelings have not changed, Tommy and Grace get married and end up having a child together. Tommy was satisfied with his life and had decided to withdraw his involvement from the gang. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Their happiness is cut short when Grace is shot. Although, not an important character, Grace definitely made a huge impact on the character arc of Tommy Shelby.

When Does Grace Die?
Grace’s death was the saddest and the most heartbreaking death of the series, leaving the fans shocked. In season three, episode two, she was shot by an assassin hired by the Italian mafia, Vincente Changretta. The attack was originally planned for Tommy Shelby, but unfortunately, Grace took the bullet leaving Charles in the custody of Tommy. Creator Stephen Knight explained to the fans that Grace’s death was simply because Tommy, the protagonist is not supposed to be happy.
If Grace was still alive, Tommy would have felt satisfied with his life and probably stepped away from the Peaky Blinders, but her death gave him a reason to be angry and seek retribution. Additionally, Grace’s death gave an emotional depth to Tommy Shelby’s character. He hallucinated her ghost up till season five, revealing the guilt and pain in him. But in the finale season, he stops hallucinating Grace’s ghost, meaning he has found redemption and made peace with her death.
