When ‘Stranger Things‘ premiered on Netflix, the producers possibly never expected it to become such a big hit. The show has remained on the list of the top 10 shows on the streaming platform. Apart from the storyline, the characters have specifically gained recognition among the audience.
While the rest of the characters are now known by everyone, there was a character introduced in the fourth season that died in the end but accumulated a huge fanbase. He was Eddie Munson. While the character’s demise was met with a backlash from the fans, people are unaware that he has an indirect link to Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp had helped writer Damien Echols prove his innocence in a triple homicide case where he was sentenced to death. Echols was arrested in 1993 alongside Jessie Misskelley Jr and Jason Baldwin on charges of murdering three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis.
In 1994, the trio were convicted and were in prison for 18 years until the ruling was overturned with the assistance of DNA technology, proving their innocence in 2010. While speaking to a news outlet, Echols revealed that Depp offered financial help to conduct the DNA testing.
Netflix Geeked’s official Twitter handle confirmed on May 28, 2022, that Echols was the inspiration behind Eddie, and the Hellfire Club storyline was inspired by the documentary series, ‘Paradise Lost‘, where Echols’ case was featured. Eddie was designed after Echols who was a member of the West Memphis Three.
