In ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 2 opening, one of the first things that welcomes us is Eddie Horniman’s descent. He is no longer the duke we once knew. As Eddie and Susie’s cannabis empire starts to expand, the two react very differently to the power that comes with it.
While Eddie is consumed by the chaos of it all, Susie Glass remains remarkably composed. She knows when to push, when to negotiate, and perhaps most importantly, when to step away. In ‘The Gentlemen’ season 2, it is finally becoming clearer and clearer why Susie was the real gangster all along.

Eddie’s transformation just goes to show how different his and Susie’s reactions to power are. He did start as an aristocrat who wanted nothing to do with the criminal underworld. But by the end of season 1, it is clear where he stands. And by the beginning of season 2, he is hungry for more.

There is a certain inevitability to it: once someone gets a taste of power, there is always more to crave. Eddie revels in this chaos, but he is slowly losing himself in the process.
That is not the case for Susie. She understands that power is not simply about having the ability to intimidate. It is about knowing how to use it. She isn’t reckless, and she always comes prepared. She can read complicated situations quickly and understands that losing yourself means facing very serious consequences.
So, while Eddie goes on a downward spiral, Susie comes out on top as the real boss all along. He becomes violent and impulsive, but Susie proves she can be surrounded by chaos without losing herself to it.
Is Susie Glass Still A Pawn In The Men’s World?
As much of a baddie as she is, Susie’s career is still very much defined by her father and Eddie. She operates Bobby Glass’s established criminal organisation. Bobby gives her authority, but not without its limitations.
Meanwhile, working with Eddie presents a completely different set of challenges. He isn’t a conventional criminal partner at all, and can honestly lose his mind sometimes. Even his interests often clash with those of the Glasses, bringing so many new rivals and problems into their business.
Yet, Susie still manages to stay on top of everything. Her loyalty restricts her, family responsibilities hold her back, her father’s established structure still limits her, and her partnership with Eddie is not always smooth either. But she manages it all, and seeing that done so well through a female character is remarkable.

Susie Can Easily Topple All The Men Around Her
Though on the surface, it seems like Susie leads the criminal underworld so well, the show never hides the limitations she faces in this very masculine industry. One of the clearest examples comes when Bobby finds out about their plan to have cannabis legalised.
We see exactly where Susie finds herself restricted when her father confronts them, becomes extremely angry, and sends Susie off on vacation. But she remarkably detaches herself from the situation. Susie moves on to another business venture, and though it doesn’t turn out well in the end, it only shows her ability to handle things.
During this storyline, we see Susie being vulnerable while still finding power through it all. She is not invincible, and she is not always in control of the people around her. Her father can still overrule her, Eddie can still make reckless decisions, and the world she operates in still places restrictions on her. But none of this stops her from figuring out what to do next.
This is what ultimately makes Susie such a fascinating gangster and female character in general. She combines authority, restraint and vulnerability all at once to stay on top of the game. There is something so feminine about that kind of power. She understands the system, bends with it to hold her place and still finds a way to win.
And while Bobby has built the organisation and Eddie has inherited the estate, Susie is the one who actually understands how to survive the game. That is what proves why she is the real main character all along, and ultimately, a better gangster than all the men combined.
