It’s been three years since ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’ swept viewers off their feet with its romance, heartbreak, and political weight, and fans still aren’t quite ready to let go. Following a minor visual hint in ‘Bridgerton’ season 4, speculation has been rekindled: was it merely nostalgia, or a hint that the world of Queen Charlotte might open again?
For now, the answer lives somewhere in the frustrating middle ground between hope and reality.
Queen Charlotte’s Story Might Be Too Special To Rush

‘Queen Charlotte’ season 2 is yet to be announced by Netflix as of early 2026. Although the prequel was a massive success upon its release in 2023, briefly becoming one of the most-watched original series on Netflix, the streamer has not taken any action to confirm a follow-up. This has not prevented fans from interpreting the message between the lines. In ‘Bridgerton’ season 4, Lady Danbury takes a moment to look at a portrait of her younger self and Queen Charlotte.

It is an emotionally charged scene, unmistakably resembling the first season. Actress Adjoa Andoh confirmed that the moment was not accidental, but a reminder of shared history. “I think what it’s saying is ‘Do you remember, audience? Do you remember those young women?’ You see that remembrance, and you understand the length of that friendship and all the vulnerabilities that were on display in that spin-off series,” she told Radio Times.
“That series was a real gift to us and a real brilliant Shonda lightbulb flashing into our story,” she added. It’s less of a breadcrumb trail and more of a loving glance backward. A reminder of the extent to which those early friendships, sacrifices, and vulnerabilities influenced the current day. In other words: meaningful, but not a promise.
‘Queen Charlotte’ Season 2 Might Be A Secret

If there’s one reason fans are still holding onto hope, it’s Shonda Rhimes. Since the start, Rhimes has not dismissed the idea outright. When ‘Queen Charlotte’ premiered, she made it clear that she was not ruling anything out; she just wasn’t actively planning a continuation. “There have been questions, but I’m not having conversations about it yet,” Rhimes told EW.

That position changed in 2024, when Rhimes confirmed that she was discussing season 2 with Netflix . Things have since fallen silent again. The stars of the show even appear dark. In 2025, Corey Mylchreest, who portrayed young King George, confessed that he had not heard any rumors of a second season.
That silence can be deliberate. ‘Queen Charlotte’ worked because it was tightly focused and emotionally complete. Stretching it unnecessarily could risk diminishing what made it special in the first place. At the moment, Netflix is fully focused on the core series, with ‘Bridgerton’ season 4 part 2 coming out February 26 and seasons 5 and 6 already announced.
