A Benedict Cumberbatch Cosplayer Was Banned From Instagram
This is exactly the situation for @Cumbermatch Peter Clark on Instagram, who has recently been alleged of attempting to be and mimicking the renowned Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch, who Peter very strongly matches as a lookalike, both outside of cosplay and when imitating the role of Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

Peter is considered by many people to be a talented member of the cosplay community. In fact, he has been invited to premieres of Marvel films while costumed as the character Doctor Strange. Instagram disabled Peter’s account the previous day for allegedly impersonating someone else on the site.
Peter has never claimed to be the actor despite the fact that his doppelganger looks remarkably similar to him. He has even put photographs online of the two of them shot together to illustrate that they are totally different persons.
Despite their strong resemblance, Peter has always been exceedingly upfront online, making it abundantly apparent on all of his social media accounts in the bio area that he is NOT the actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
Impersonation On Instagram Is A Very Serious Crime
Although impersonation on Instagram is a very serious issue that does occur and should be dealt with in a stern manner, it is abundantly evident that Instagram as a company and as a platform does not have algorithms that are clever enough to discern between cosplay and identity theft.
Once this has been brought to Instagram’s attention, an expert or at the very least a real human being should be tasked with conducting an investigation into the circumstances. It is abundantly clear that Instagram did not proceed in the appropriate manner when it made the decision to suspend Peter’s account, despite the fact that he had committed zero offenses.
And It appears that Peter Clark’s primary Instagram profile, which is @Cumbermatch, has been brought back up, and the suspension has been lifted. He expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him via social media, to both fans and fellow cosplayers.
