“He Represents A Unique Space In The Avengers Spectrum”: ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Director Praises Anthony Mackie’s Captain America

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is moving into a bold new era, and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, is set to be at the heart of it.

Director Anthony Russo, one-half of the legendary Russo Brothers duo, recently spoke about Mackie’s portrayal in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Moreover, he made sure to emphasize the significance of his role.

In an interview with Esquire, Anthony Russo emphasized the importance of Anthony Mackie’s role in the MCU’s upcoming Avengers films. “He represents a unique space in the Avengers spectrum, and that’s the greatest thing,” Russo said. “Sooner or later, the collective storytelling is going to be in that space he occupies.”

Moreover, Mackie’s evolution from Sam Wilson to Captain America has been a journey of resilience and responsibility. Now, with the Russo Brothers back at the helm for two massive Avengers films, his leadership will be tested like never before.

Filming for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ is slated to begin in late 2025, and speculation about the plot has, unsurprisingly, already begun. Additionally, in both ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’, Steve Rogers took the lead. So, Sam Wilson taking on the mantle and the Young Avengers doesn’t seem that far-fetched.

The Russo Brothers Will Reportedly Direct More Films That Just ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ And ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

For years, Marvel fans speculated whether Anthony and Joe Russo would return to direct another Avengers film after ‘Endgame’. Now, with the official confirmation that the duo is making their highly anticipated comeback with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ fans are ecstatic.

Additionally, according to insider Daniel Richtman, the Russo Brothers have signed a new deal with Marvel Studios that extends beyond just these two films. Their involvement is expected to shape the next saga, including the much-awaited X-Men reboot.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also hinted at a larger role for the X-Men within the MCU. “I think you will see that continue in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize,” he stated. With ‘Secret Wars’ set to redefine the MCU, it’s clear that mutants will be a big part of what’s next.
