Colman Domingo has finally spoken out about the rumors that he was set to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans of the antagonist believed that the actor would be a good fit for the role.
However, Domingo himself never felt the role was his to take. The actor talked about his actual meeting with Marvel, and his desire to craft a role from the ground up rather than step into someone else’s shoes.

For months, fans and insiders speculated that Colman Domingo was the frontrunner to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror after Majors was fired by Marvel Studios in December 2023. But as it turns out, the rumors were running ahead of reality. While talking to Josh Horowitz, Colman Domingo shared his thoughts on the speculation.

“When it was constantly in the press and on places like Twitter, I was like, ‘Wait a minute. Is this true? Am I being talked about for Kang?’” Domingo recalled. “I literally called up my team and said, ‘Are you guys having conversations that I have no idea about?’ And they said no.”
Despite no prior discussions about Kang, Domingo did take the opportunity to meet with Marvel Studios. “There had been conversations about me coming into Marvel in some way, so we did follow up with a sit-down meeting with the heads of Marvel,” he explained. The meeting wasn’t specifically about Kang. However, they did discuss the ongoing speculation.
Moreover, while some actors might jump at the chance to take on an already-established role, Domingo had reservations. “I personally knew, I’m just all about energy and want to do things that make sense and bring gentle energy. I want a role to be mine, whatever that role is. Something didn’t feel right about me replacing someone.” Marvel ultimately decided to move away from Kang altogether, shifting its villain focus to RDJ’s Doctor Doom.

While Colman Domingo passed on the opportunity to step into Kang’s shoes, he’s already found his way into the Marvel universe, just in a different format. The actor is Norman Osborn’s voice in ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’, the animated series following a younger version of the web-slinger.

Additionally, according to Domingo, fans won’t have to wait long for Osborn’s transformation into the iconic Green Goblin. “I love the animation. I love the idea of playing Norman Osborn,” Domingo said, before teasing what’s ahead for the character. “You’ll see his evolution into the Green Goblin in the coming seasons, which is very cool.”
This revelation has naturally sparked speculation about whether Domingo could make the leap to live-action as Osborn. Moreover, the show will not be following the canon and instead of having Tony Stark’s as his mentor, Spider-Man will be under Osborn. So, Domingo’s comments can hint at a lot of different things.
