Dolly Parton, Eminem, And Lionel Richie Gets Inducted Into “The Rock And Roll” Hall of Fame

On April 20, 1983, Ahmet Ertegun, the founder and chairman of Atlantic Records, formed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. After a long search for the perfect location, Cleveland made it into the Hall of Fame’s permanent home in 1986.

Musicians can join hall of fame only 25 years after their debut recording. Each year, the foundation’s nominating committee, made up of rock historians, chooses contenders in the performance category. A global panel of 500 rock specialists vote to select the winners.

This year, Eminem, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, and Pat Benatar have all been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also, joining Dolly Parton, who first refused the accolade.

1,000 artists, historians, and music industry professionals made the honorees of this year. “Have had a tremendous impact on the sound of young culture and helped change the course of rock ‘n’ roll,” according to John Sykes, the Rock Hall’s chairman.

Parton had used social media to “respectfully bow out” of the process. Claiming that she did not want to siphon votes away from the other nominees. She said that she had not “earned that right.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation responded by stating that votes had already been mailed out. Parton’s decision was up to the voters whether she should be a part or not. Later, Parton stated that she would accept induction.

“A living legend and a paragon of female empowerment,” the hall said in its citation, adding that “her crossover success broadened the audience for country music and expanded the horizons for countless artists who followed.”
