Charges Pressed Against The Ex-Cop Who Kneeled On George Floyd
The former Minneapolis officer Alexander Keung had kneeled on George Floyd’s back while he was struggling to breathe. Keung is already serving a federal sentence. This is because he had violated Floyd’s civil rights. In October, he had pleaded guilty to a state court of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.
The ex-cop admitted to the fact that handcuffing and restraining the person in a prone position had substantial risk. He also agreed that the restraint was unreasonable under those circumstances. Thus the charge of aiding and abetting murder has been dropped as he pleaded guilty.
He will be serving both state and federal sentences at the same time. He did not address the court when given a chance at the hearing on December 9, 2022. The former officer would be serving a total of three and a half years behind the bar.
