We’ll be forever in debt to ‘Barbie’ for casting the perfect Barbie and Ken. But equal care was taken to cast alternate versions of the beloved doll characters. But something about the star-studded cast felt a little incomplete. According to Greta Gerwig, there were plans for Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan to appear in the movie.
These cameos didn’t come to pass due to scheduling errors. Gerwig wanted both of her collaborators for her blockbuster directorial film. But the planning was never mapped out as they were all busy with different projects. While proud of her former collaborators going places, she wishes she could have had another chance to work with them.

Greta Gerwig had plans for Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan to be part of Barbie Land. She’s previously collaborated with young actors on ‘Lady Bird’ and ‘Little Women.’ But Gerwig told CinemaBlend that new projects and inflexible filming schedules separated the trio. Therefore she had to cancel their cameos.
Greta Gerwig told First Hollywood Access about Timothée Chalamet visiting the ‘Barbie’ set. She told the outlet, “I tried to get them both in it. They both couldn’t do it. Although Timothée did come by the set and then said, ‘I should have been in this,’ And I was like, ‘I know! Why aren’t you in this?’”

It turns out a filming schedule is a decision set in stone. Greta Gerwig wanted her ‘Barbie’ to be a different assortment of actors playing varied versions of Ken. Before scheduling conflicts arose, Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt were considered. Jonathan Groff was in contention for Allan, later played by Michael Cera.
At some point, the project revolved around Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway. Before Margot Robbie was only the film’s producer, she considered casting Gal Gadot in the titular role. Eventually, Margot Robbie killed it as ‘Barbie’ made more than a billion dollars at the global box office.
