For the concept for the book ‘Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch’, Hampshire imagined the Kardashians to be a family of witches. The idea struck her as, “What if the Kardashians were a family of witches?”

She further explained to EW, “I remember watching ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ and thinking if I had happened to be born into that family, oh boy, I would be so bad at it. I thought, ‘What if the Kardashians were a family of witches?’ And what if there was one sister you never knew about because she was cut out of the reality [show] because she was such a basic, and by basic I mean, bad, witch, and Amelia Aeirwood is that witch.”

The novel by Hampshire follows the Aeirwood family in which the witches are also influencers and stars on their own reality show. She shared, “Once I got into this story, this is to be the beginning of the whole world. There’s going to be an Amelia cartoon, an Amelia musical. I see this as an Amelia-verse.”

The novel separates the real world and the life the character lives in front of the camera. The focus is on the reality behind the fantasy.

Hampshire feels lucky to have gotten the opportunity to write the graphic novel. She was approached by one of her former agents to write it. “This has turned into the dream come true I never knew I had,” she concluded.
