Maisie Williams rose to fame when she played Arya Stark in HBO’s hit fantasy series ‘Game Of Thrones’. Princess Arya Stark was the youngest child of Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Stark from the House of Stark. However, in a recent promotional video for her Hulu series, ‘Pistol,’ Maisie revealed that the moment that surprised her most about Arya was her fornication scene with Gendry Baratheon.
Williams’ Arya Stark’s queerness was evident throughout the series until that moment. Maisie herself thought that she was queer until she slept with Joe Dempsie’s Gendry before the battle of Winterfell.

“I Thought Arya Was Queer”: Maisie Williams
In the ‘Teen Vogue Firsts’ video, Maisie shared her ‘firsts’. Amongst many firsts was the moment that took her by surprise about Arya Stark in ‘Game Of Thrones’. Nevertheless, the moment that shocked her about the princess was her sex scene with Gendry in the second episode titled “A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms” from the last season [that is another separate rant].
During the video, she said, “The first time that I was surprised by Arya I guess was probably in the final series where she whips off her clothes and sleeps with Gendry. I thought that Arya was queer, you know? So…yeah. That was a surprise.”
What Was Maisie’s Reaction When She Read the Sex Scene In The Script?
In a 2019 interview, she thought that the creators were pulling a prank on her when she read the scene where Arya and Gendry consummate. The showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff had a history of pulling pranks on actors with scripts to prevent any spoilers.
In the behind-the-scenes book ‘Fire Cannot Kill A Dragon,’ both of them pulled a prank on Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner where they were told that they were not allowed to the pilot wrap party because they were underage. They told them that there will be a party at McDonald’s for them. Nonetheless, both made it to the party. Williams, during the interview, said, “At first, I thought it was a prank. I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And [the showrunners were] like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’ Oh f**k!”
Maisie is on the promotional drive for her Hulu series, ‘Pistol,’ where she plays Pamela Rooke. The Danny Boyle-helmed series is about the English Punk band Sex Pistols. As for Game Of Thrones, the prequel ‘House of Dragons,’ will air on HBO from August 21, 2022.
