Jeff Bezos To Give Away Most Of His Fortune To Charity
Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos has joined the list of rich folks who do charity to maintain a clean image just like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett among others.
In an interview with CNN’s Chloe Melas that aired Monday, the 58-year-old said that he plans to donate a majority of his wealth to charitable causes. Most of it will go toward fighting climate change and to people who are fighting against deep social and political divisions.
Philanthropy “is really hard,” he said. “We’re building the capacity to be able to give away this money.” In 2020, the Amazon founder announced the Bezos Earth Fund, which he’ll grant $10 billion over 10 years to scientists, activists, and non-governmental organizations “to help preserve and protect the natural world.”
He was interviewed along with his wife Lauren Sánchez whom he married in 2021. Under Bezos’ 2019 divorce settlement with his first wife MacKenzie Scott, she received 25% Amazon shares. She later pledged to donate at least half her wealth to charitable causes and has given away an estimated $12.8 billion to around 1,200 organizations.

Is Bezos Doing This To Clean His Image?
Despite saying that he will donate most of his wealth to charity, Bezos had until now not officially signed the Giving Pledge. It encourages rich individuals to commit to giving away more than half their wealth.
He is one of the most hated billionaires on this planet and there are plenty of reasons for it. One of them is the horrible working condition for Amazon employees who aren’t even allowed bathroom breaks.
Recently, a former housekeeper of the Amazon founder filed a lawsuit against him for a bad work environment. A topping on the cake was his trip to space via Blue Origin, which was seen as a redundant display of wealth. He might be trying to break away from that image.
