‘Assume Nothing’ Is Based On Tanya Selvaratnam’s Memoir
The subject of the Amazon Prime limited series is based on a memoir. ‘Assume Nothing’ is a memoir by writer and filmmaker Tanya Selvaratnam. It recounts her dating experiences, particularly her relationship with former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman was an advocate of women’s rights. During the #MeToo movement, he successfully sued Harvey Weinstein and won restitution for many of his clients. However, Tanya’s relationship with Eric Schneiderman was marked by sexual abuse and degradation.
When the relationship ended, Selvaratnam came forward with her story. She shared her traumatizing story with Jane Mayer and Ronan Farrow of the New Yorker. It was her resolve that resulted in Schneiderman’s downfall. His replacement, Letitia James, became the first female attorney general of New York State.
