In September 2022, the trailer for ‘Enola Holmes 2‘ was released and instantly all media platforms were swarmed with exuberance and theories for the new period thriller. When the first movie was released in 2020, the viewers received the prequel, to the story of an already brilliant detective, Sherlock Holmes, warmly. With the nimble and annoyingly stubborn spirit of yet another Holmes, Millie Bobby Brown perfectly meets the young girl’s character trying to find her way in the world.

Therefore the leg-shaking wait for the next part can easily be inferred. And it seems the PCMA production, one of Brown’s own undertakings, is knitting expectations for something bigger as its “a mystery so big it takes 2 Holmes to handle.”

Based on the books of the American writer, Nancy Springer, the 2020 Netflix film is based on the struggles of the youngest of the Holmes children, who ironically enough, by her name is left ‘alone’ by her mother (Helena Bonham Carter). In her quest to find her mother, she escapes the plans of her orthodox, misogynist elder brother Mycroft (Sam Claflin) and helps a runaway Viscount (Louis Partridge). She outsmarts the “art of deduction” of her brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and solves a case before him.

However, it is the closing of the movie that paves the stepping stone for the upcoming part. All of Enola’s life training, her mother’s secrecy and designs are for none other than a revolutionary feminist movement.

Amidst the promotional campaign a few days before the release of her movie, Brown talked to Netflixqueue about what should be expected from the return of a new Enola Holmes. “The first film was about self-exploration, personal growth,” says Brown. She described that this time we won’t see Enola Holmes but Detective Enola Holmes.

As we learn from the trailers, a missing person’s case leads to the unraveling of the dirty corruption of the snobby ‘posh’ class and ultimately women standing up against their pitiful status and life. Certainly, we can assume that this ‘Enola Holmes 2‘ will focus on social reformation. Brown explains that it is based on the 1888 Match Girl Strike event, where 1400 employees revolted against the inhumane working hours and unsafe working conditions.

I find it so inspiring to think of these young women, who basically have no power at all, rising up against the system. But also it’s consistent with the theme of sisterhood that runs through this film,” added Brown about the film.
