For failing to register as a sex offender in California, Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty was given a year of home confinement, three years of probation, and a $55,000 fine on Wednesday.
Petty accepted a plea agreement last year. He moved to California with Minaj after their 2019 wedding but neglected to register as a sex offender. Petty was sentenced to more than four years in jail after being found guilty of attempted rape in New York in the early 1990s. He is forced to register as a sex offender wherever he resides due to the conviction.

Nicki Minaj’s Husband Kenneth Petty Failed To Register As A Sex Offender
The federal prosecutors’ request for Petty to serve 15 months in prison is more severe than the year of home confinement. House arrest wouldn’t be a harsh enough penalty, as previously reported given that Petty and Minaj reside in an opulent house in a gated neighborhood in Calabasas.
However, Judge Michael Fitzgerald stated during the sentencing hearing that prison wasn’t the best course of action. Given the case’s less serious nature compared to other instances of sex offenders failing to register if they move. The burden another prisoner would place on the prison system during a spike in Covid cases from the Omicron variant is also a concern.
Minaj skipped her husband’s sentencing hearing, according to Petty’s defense lawyers, to prevent making a spectacle of it.
Nicki Minaj Sent A Lengthy Letter To Petty’s Legal Team
Minaj gave Petty’s defense team a lengthy letter, which they then read aloud during the sentencing hearing. She said that Petty’s imprisonment will harm their kid, who is almost two years old.
“I have no doubt my son would be traumatized if his father would be taken out of his life,” she wrote. “I’ve known Kenneth Petty for over 20 years, when I first met him I knew he needed guidance… I’ve seen his genuine evolution first hand.”
Petty expressed regret for breaching the law by failing to register in California before the announcement of his sentence. I accept complete responsibility for whatever that occurs today, he declared. “I’m ashamed, embarrassed, and disrespected my wife’s brand. There are no excuses, I broke the law. I thank you for giving me the chance to speak, to apologise,” he said.
Jennifer Hough, whom Petty was found guilty of attempting to rape in 1994, has filed a lawsuit against Petty in addition to the sentencing. Both Petty and Minaj were named in Hough’s lawsuit last year, which claimed that they “directly and indirectly intimidated, harassed, and threatened [Hough] to recant her legitimate claim that Defendant Petty raped her.” Petty is still mentioned in the lawsuit, even though Minaj was dropped from it earlier this year.
