Rudy Giuliani is one of the most prolific politicians in the United States. With a career spanning over four decades, Rudy has served as a lawyer, Mayor, Attorney General, and many other posts in his life. He is also the center point of several controversies and has charges against him.
But, Rudy has also been in the news for his personal life and several legal issues. The 78-year-old man has another one to deal with now. His ex-wife Judith Nathan is suing him. She wants him to pay more than a quarter of a million dollars, or go to prison.
Rudy Giuliani Sued By Ex-Wife
According to a report from Page Six, Judith claims that the one-time personal attorney to Donald Trump is in contempt of court for allegedly withholding $262,000. In new court papers filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, she states that Rudy should have paid her under the terms of their divorce settlement. It is for their Palm Beach, house, housekeeper, and private club fees.
Judith has accused Rudy of owing her around $140,000 for one of their property in South Lake Drive, Palm Beach. In 2019, it was listed in the market for $3.3 million but was not sold. She claims in the documents that Rudy “is required to pay me $200,000 regardless of whether or not the property has been sold“.
Rudy has only given her $60,000 to date. In the court papers, Judith has claimed that he failed to “pay his half of the annual club membership dues” at a country club. Talking about how she had to pay his $70,000, Judith said: “I had no choice but to pay his share of the dues … in order to remain in good standing with the clubs.”
The former New York City Mayor also has to pay up to $5,000 a month for her to have a housekeeper. She says that her ex-husband “has made inconsistent and sporadic payments to me, including a $10,000 check in June 2021 that was returned due to insufficient funds.” Rudy owes her around $45,000 for the help. The two were married between 2003 to 2019.
The Legal Trouble Continues
Judith believes that Rudy has money to pay her back despite him being neck-deep in legal troubles. She says, “He owns multiple properties in New York City and Palm Beach [and] he has significant earnings from his media-related contracts and deals.”
Rudy might end up in prison if he fails to pay up. The court papers state, “Your failure to appear in court may result in immediate arrest or imprisonment for contempt of court.”
The two tried to informally do the terms of the settlement after their divorce. Her lawyer Dror Bikel says: “She reached out to him without the lawyers and they met privately … Judith wanted to do it on her own. She met with Rudy, he wrote the terms on a napkin.”
Judith filed for divorce in 2018 after 15 years of marriage. After a messy divorce battle, they settled in December 2019. The details were not made public.
