Royal Drama: Why Was Meghan Markle Not Allowed To Pay Her Respect To The Dying Queen Elizabeth?

The world was shocked to hear the news of the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022. She died at the Balmoral Castle at the age of 96. The Queen’s children had been by her side as she was taken under medical supervision. The new heir apparent, Prince William, and his brother Prince Harry were also present at Balmoral. But where were Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, their respective wives?

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton hadn’t been there at Balmoral. She had to stay behind to attend to her three children who are attending the Lambrook School. On the other hand, Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle was not invited to join the royal family at Balmoral castle. According to ET, she had been there in London on Thursday when Queen Elizabeth II passed away. Here’s more to why Meghan was not invited to Balmoral Castle.

Talking about the incident, royal expert Katie Nicholl said, “It’s understood that the family wanted Prince Harry to be there, even though he was unable to get to Balmoral in time to see his grandmother, but Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was not, we understand, invited to join the family. She has said she will go to Balmoral another time, but I think it is quite significant that Prince Harry traveled to Balmoral on his own without his wife.

Tensions were so high and there was no way Meghan could have gone to Balmoral,” inside sources told Page Six. “The fact the Sussex camp did say both Harry and Meghan were going — and then quickly retracted that statement — will tell you everything you need to know about the drama behind the scenes.

Some sources inform that the plan for Meghan to accompany Harry to Scotland was canceled as King Charles III wasn’t in favor of it. Some said that Meghan had stayed back with due respect to Kate Middleton who also hadn’t attended the Queen at Balmoral.

Harry had left Balmoral and joined Meghan in London on September 10. They are expected to stay in the country for the next ten days until the Queen’s state funeral. The couple is currently staying at their Windsor home Frogmore Cottage. It is still not sure if Meghan would fly back to her children, Archie and Lilibet, to California or whether they would join their parents in England for their great-grandmother’s funeral.

Meghan Markle had paid respect to the UK’s longest-reigning monarch on the home page of her and Harry’s foundation website. In his first speech as King Charles III, the new monarch did mention “love for Harry and Meghan“. With the Queen’s death, it can be assumed that there may be changes in the relationship dynamics between the Royals and the couple.
