It was confirmed in August 2020 that Morgan Creek Entertainment is going to produce a new installment in ‘The Exorcist’ franchise. In December 2020, it was reported that the upcoming project is going to be a direct sequel and it will follow the original film. It is scheduled to be released on October 13, 2023.
Ellen Burstyn revealed in 2022 that she had finished shooting for her sequences. Production for the film began in November 2022 but had to be stopped for some time following Leslie Odom Jr.’s health problems. Burstyn will once again appear as Chris MacNeil, although the duration of her screen presence has not been disclosed so far.
