Lucasfilm, the parent company leading the Star Wars franchise is having a good time in the OTT space. Their recent release, ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ is attracting positive reviews and reactions. Nevertheless, Lucasfilm is also aiming for its theatrical releases. Fans couldn’t keep calm after the announcement of Taika Waititi directing a Star Wars film.
The Star Wars franchise is characterized by serious content, but the director Waititi may bring some dark wit and aesthetics to the space saga. Earlier, it was decided that Patty Jenkins helmed ‘Rogue Squadron’ will have a theatrical release in 2023, but some differences caused the postponement of the project. Nonetheless, now that the Waititi film is slated to release in 2023, he has stirred social media with updates about the film.
“I’m Still Writing”: Taika Waititi Updated About The Star Wars Film
It is indeed a Marvel-ous year for the auteur director Taika Waititi. Next month will see the release of Marvel Studios’ ‘Thor: Love And Thunder.’ Waititi has directed the fourth installment of the Thor franchise, and the fans have already been on tenterhooks with this one. Taika is also busy with his next feature with the Star Wars franchise. He has also donned the hat of the director for the finale of ‘The Mandalorian.’
There are no firm updates about the project besides the president at Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy has greenlit it for release in 2023. Though the information is still under the wraps, Taika, in an interview, when asked about how his film will be different from other installments, teased the fans with the information about the project. He said, “That’s yet to be seen. I don’t know. I’m still writing. I’m still coming up with the ideas and storylining it and just wanted to make sure that it feels like a Star Wars film.”
He continued, “Because, I could say, “Oh yeah, we’ll just write any old thing and set in space and then put Star Wars on the front.” But it wouldn’t be a Star Wars film without certain elements and a certain treatment, so I’ve just got to make sure that it stays within that wheelhouse.”
In September, there will be the D23 Expo, where the studio informs about the projects slated for the future. Looking at its 2023 release, Lucasfilm may give further clarity about Taika Waititi’s film at the event.

Atleast we all know it's still happening. I would hate it if it was cancelled. I can't wait to see what Taika Waititi brings to the table for Star Wars
