‘Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part one’ saw the exit of one of the most important female characters of the franchise. And it is none other than Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa. Ilsa played a significant role from Fallout till Dead Reckoning.
Ilsa dies trying to save Grace. She took on Gabriel who would have killed Grace if she did not interfere. Although we understand she died a sort of hero but this was rather a plain ending for her.

The Franchise’s History Of Killing Off Female Characters
Since the very beginning, female characters are almost always written off after just one movie. The franchise seems to be having a hard time trying to hold on to meaningful female characters. Ilsa Fraust is the new one on the list.
The franchise even fails to pass the Bechdel test. Clearly, it does not have two named female characters talking to each other about anything other than a man. In almost all of the movies, Ethan’s missions are fueled by the want to take revenge on a female character’s death.
Even his wife, Julia Meade, meets the same fate. Although she is not killed off, her character gets demoted as a cameo after just one movie. The same goes for the hardline CIA boss, Erika Sloane. Ilsa could have been a powerful partner to Ethan but she is killed off as well. And fans are not very happy about the exit of one of the most iconic ‘Mission Impossible‘ characters.
