Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been winning praises for resisting the Russian invasion and fighting tooth and nail. He has appeared at several film festivals and award shows to talk about it in the US.

According to Variety, the former comedian might not be able to appear at this year’s Academy Awards. Mike Simpson, the WME power agent pleaded with the Academy to let him appear at the Oscars.

But his bid was rejected. Zelenskyy was planning to continue his appearance after the Berlin Film Festival where he made a remote appearance. After the invasion, the comedian turned politician appeared at Cannes and Venice film festivals as well as the Grammy and the Golden Globes. This development comes amid the dwindling public view of the US supporting Ukraine in the war.

Right after Russia invaded Ukraine, several countries put sanctions on the Vladimir Putin-led country. This has severely disrupted Russia’s economic activities. Countries that have put sanctions on it include the United States. Apart from this, the US has been supplying weapons to Ukraine.

In response, Russia has decided to boycott the 2023 Oscars. Last year in September, it was reported that Russia won’t be sending an official Oscar candidate to the International feature film race.

The Russian film academy announced this news. Pavel Tchoukhrai, the president of Russia’s Oscar committee have resigned to stand by their country’s decision.
