The return of Ultron in ‘VisionQuest’ might not be a resurrection after all. Rather, Marvel seems to be delving into something far more bizarre: what happens when the remnants of an old enemy are still buried inside Vision himself.

Ultron Could Still Exist Inside Vision

The trailer seemingly takes viewers into White Vision’s mind, where familiar AI systems appear to have human forms. JARVIS, F.R.I.D.A.Y., and even Tony Stark’s workshop technology might be the various components of the digital history that has formed Vision.

That’s why Ultron is so intriguing. The Mind Stone was the source of Vision’s vision and technology from Ultron’s neural network. The physical bodies of Ultron were destroyed, but that doesn’t mean that all of his programming was as well. There may be some remains that survived in the structure of Vision.

If that is what ‘VisionQuest‘ is doing, Ultron doesn’t need to be resurrected. He might just be a lost piece of Vision that has come to light. And that makes his return even creepier.

This could also explain why the version of JARVIS we see doesn’t simply look like Vision. These characters could be different artificial personalities within his mind, not necessarily real people. That makes the mansion more than an unusual place. It might be a visual metaphor for Vision’s divided digital persona.

Then there is Tommy, seemingly searching for his father and becoming involved in this bizarre internal world. Rather than a typical superhero battle, Marvel might be preparing for Vision to face the remnants of the technology that helped forge him. Ultron is back, but can Vision finally get rid of the villain that was a part of him?
