One of the most underrated villains in the MCU is coming back, and it could alter the way fans look at the whole Infinity Saga. While villains like Thanos, Loki, and Killmonger are usually the ones that dominate the discussion of the MCU’s biggest villains, Ultron has always held a strange place in Marvel history.

The rogue AI was introduced in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, but was defeated before he could be seen to his full potential. Now, with Ultron returning in ‘VisionQuest’, Marvel has an opportunity to revisit a villain who could have been much more dangerous than they originally thought.

Ultron’s Original MCU Potential Was Never Fully Explored

It’s an exciting prospect for longtime fans. Ultron was not simply a robot with a destructive agenda; he was a developing intelligence with the potential to become something far more terrifying. In ‘Age of Ultron’, Tony Stark’s creation soon got out of his hands and was roaming through global networks, accessing all sorts of information and technology.

In a very short time, Ultron created armies, controlled advanced systems, and almost acquired a new, powerful body with the Mind Stone. If he had been able to get that body, he could have seen an entirely different outcome in the MCU.

Ultron’s strongest asset was his adaptability, not his brute force. He was not like most villains who could only learn, evolve, and be present in multiple places at once. That’s what made him dangerous.

Years later, fans still question what would have occurred if Ultron had received more time. Would he be strong enough to take on Thanos? It’s impossible to say for sure, but it’s enough to say that the idea for the character was quite ambitious.

‘VisionQuest’ Could Unlock A New Version Of Ultron

With Ultron confirmed to be back in ‘VisionQuest’, it’s interesting to wonder where Marvel will go with the character next. The series will continue the story of White Vision after the events of ‘WandaVision’, with him now facing the AI that wanted to take over his body.

The dynamic between Vision and Ultron has always been intriguing. In many respects, Vision is the embodiment of what Ultron was never supposed to be: a machine with empathy, morals, and selflessness. Their meeting might be more than a battle between good and evil.

Then again, Ultron might be back with a vengeance. When the body of the other and the unlimited power of the other combine, the villain becomes unstoppable, as Marvel’s animated ‘What If…?’ series showed. So it’s not clear if Ultron is a friend or foe, but his return is important.

Finally, more than 10 years after his first appearance in the MCU, Marvel might be ready to reveal to viewers why Ultron was always one of its most formidable creations.
