‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ brought audiences a completely different version of the Silver Surfer, and now fans will get to know the story that the movie barely touched on.
Marvel Comics has unveiled a new one-shot, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Foes, Shalla-Bal #1’, that explores the origins of the herald of Galactus, who is inspired by the Marvel universe.
The Comics Will Show A Deeper Look At Shalla-Bal’s Sacrifice

The comic will delve into the journey of Shalla-Bal, from being an astronomer to one of the most powerful cosmic entities in the universe, filling in some of the gaps from the movie. One of the most intriguing aspects of ‘First Steps’ was its portrayal of Shalla-Bal as Galactus’s herald.

The film’s interpretation of the Silver Surfer was much more about the emotional toll of being a servant to the Devourer of Worlds than any of the previous live-action versions. The new comic will show the hard decisions Shalla-Bal had to make when she accepted Galactus’s offer to serve him in exchange for saving her world.
The story will explore what the cost of that was, and the moral dilemmas that arose after. Mark Buckingham’s artwork preview portrays the character’s immense power, as well as her compassion. The pages focus on the balance that made Shalla-Bal such an amazing character in ‘First Steps’: a cosmic power with the ability to destroy on a grand scale, yet who still refuses to lose her humanity.
The MCU is Expanding The Fantastic Four’s Cosmic Corner With Silver Surfer

The release is another indication that Marvel is working to expand the universe created in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’. Although the film was mainly about the team’s fight against Galactus, many people were curious about the mysterious herald who ultimately confronted her master.

While it remains to be seen if Shalla-Bal will be a part of a future project in the MCU, this one-shot does not doubt that her story isn’t over yet. For fans who connected with the character, it may be the closest thing to a sequel currently on the horizon.
