Fans of AMC’s post-apocalyptic horror show ‘The Walking Dead‘ were disappointed after two of their main actors Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira left the show a few years ago.
Now there is some good news for the fans as both the actors surprised everyone at the recent Comic-Con. They announced a new Rick and Michonne series for AMC Networks in 2023.

Lincoln And Gurira Announce A Spinoff Series
This year’s Comic-Con saw the last panel for ‘The Walking Dead‘ as the series will be wrapping up this October with the last eight episodes on AMC. The network revealed the full-length trailer for ‘The Walking Dead: The Last Episodes’.
To break the bittersweet vibe, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira walked on stage to announce a new spin-off series for AMC Networks in 2023. The series will replace the series of Rick Grimes films which was first announced back in 2018. This was the time when Lincoln left the show.

The show will feature the characters of Michonne Hawthrone and Rick Grimes (played by Gurira and Lincoln respectively).
According to Entertainment Weekly, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan were talking about ‘Isle of the Dead’. Then Scott Gimple, the chief content officer of Walking Dead Universe, was asked if there was anything else to announce. Instead, Lincoln and Gurira took to the stage to huge applause from the audience.
“This is kind of overwhelming,” Lincoln said. “Because you are the hardest of the hardcore fans, we have something we want to tell you first.”
Gurira added, “We are, Mr. Rick Grimes himself and Mr. Scott Gimple in an amazing bolo tie today, got together and have been cooking something up for you all because we missed you and we owe you the conclusion of this story of Rick and Michonne.”
Lincoln then said, “So next year, there’s going to be six episodes on AMC+ airing in 2023, so next year there’s going to be a lot more to talk about. I personally can’t wait to get my cowboys boots back on and get the band back together.”
The Ever-Expanding Walking Dead Universe
The six-episode series will be the first season of a continuing series starring Lincoln and Gurira. It will be replacing the solo-Rick Grimes film trilogy.
AMC’s original zombie series has been on air since October 31, 2010. With 11 seasons and more than 250 episodes, the series is set to conclude this year.
A spin-off series titled ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ has been airing since 2015. Another spin-off titled ‘Walking Dead: World Beyond’ ran for nearly a year.
Four further spinoffs have been announced so far, out of which two are untitled. One of them is an anthology series that will feature individual character backstories.
