The latest minions movie ‘The Rise of Gru’ is currently ruling the box office. It is also at the number one spot at the Australian box office for the past two weeks. Recently, there is a trend that has taken over TikTok called the #Gentleminions.
The trend has caused a huge uproar in the screenings of the movie. While some people are absolutely loving the trend some seem to think otherwise. The reactions of the people witnessing the trend make our headlines.
All About The TikTok Trend
The trend was first started by a TikToker, named Bill Hirst who got more than 35 million views. The filming of the clip first took place in Westfield Chatswood in Sydney, Australia. This trend is all about large groups of young men in formal attire attending the movie. They are particularly dressed in dark suits and ties.
These groups are going to their local cinemas, walking in the style, and riding escalators in formation. After entering the theatres, they sit together in a row and throw Minions symbols as the movie runs. Not only do they even routinely clap in appreciation.
According to the Daily Mail, “It’s amusing for viewers to see formally attired young men appearing to take a children’s film so seriously.” Their style of viewing is particularly an “ironic enjoyment” and the groups often end up filming content worthy for making TikTok memes during the act.
What Do The Fans Think About The Trend?
Fans are having a mixed reaction to the trend. Some TikTok users are saying that the trend is “raising awareness for the greatest movie ever.” The trend is also popular on other platforms like Twitter as well.
“Why Minions is crushing the box office,” journalist Rob Keyes tweeted, sharing Hirst’s TikTok clip on the micro-blogging platform. Another one wrote, “In order to keep #gentleminions going we have to behave. No yelling, no being disruptive to other movie-goers. True gentleminionship”.
